A WISH FOR LARA
Why make a wish for Lara?
Lara is a 13-year-old girl who is just like any other teenager. She loves animals, especially her cat Lu Lu and has a horse named Prusso, whom she loves to ride. She spends a lot of her time reading books especially the Warriors series and enjoys doing crafts including origami.
The one thing that is different about Lara from any other teenage girl is she fighting a battle with a disease called leukemia. She was first diagnosed with leukemia in August of 2012 and after many months of treatment, she became cancer free. However, in December of 2014 this awful disease came back and she is now fighting this battle once again. Lara is currently going through chemotherapy and waiting for a suitable bone marrow donor.
Why fold a crane ?
The crane in Japan is thought to be a mystical creature and is said to live for a thousand years. Legend promises anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish – traditionally this wish is for peace and health, which is our wish for Lara. Hanging a thousand origami cranes, Senbasuru, in one’s home is also thought to be a powerfully lucky charm.
Where to find supplies?
Any square piece of paper of any size is great for origami but you can purchase origami sets (paper and instructions) at any of your book or stationary stores i.e. Luxor Bookstore, Tesco, SEVT, Michaels, Walmart and Amazon. Just search the internet for stores in your local area.
